John G.Hurrell

John G. Hurrell, Ph.D. joined Focus Diagnostics as Vice President and General Manager in 2007, bringing with him more than 25 years of leadership experience in the global diagnostics marketplace. Dr. Hurrell previously held CEO, COO and VP-level positions at Inproteo, Tripath, FluorRx, Genzyme, Boehringer Mannheim and Quest Diagnostics, where he was instrumental in developing new biopharma/biodiagnostic technologies from concept into full product launch following regulatory approval. Dr. Hurrell earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the University of Melbourne in Parkville, Victoria, Australia, and was a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard Medical School.

Jay M. Lieberman, M.D.

Jay M. Lieberman

Jay M. Lieberman, M.D. joined Focus Diagnostics in 2007 as Medical Director, where he is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of clinically relevant diagnostic products. Previously, he was Chief of Infectious Diseases at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, California and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine.  Dr. Lieberman is a graduate of Princeton University and the New York University School of Medicine, completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Maurice Exner, Ph.D., D(ABMM)

Maurice Exner

Maurice Exner, Ph.D. joined Focus Diagnostics in 2007, where he leads innovation efforts to develop new assays and technologies. He has particular expertise in the field of molecular diagnostics, as he holds a number of patents related to novel molecular detection methods. Dr. Exner has extensive training in infectious diseases and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology; he is also a licensed Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist. He received his Ph.D. in Microbiology at the University of British Columbia, and did his postdoctoral training at UCLA School of Medicine. Previous to his current position, he led R&D teams at HandyLab and Quest Diagnostics.

Mark Wobken

Vice President, Diagnostics Operations

Mark Wobken

Mark Wobken joined Focus Diagnostics as Vice President, Diagnostics Operations in 2007, bringing with him more than 30 years of operations experience in the medical device and diagnostic industries. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Wobken was Vice President of Operations for a start-up point of care molecular diagnostic company, Vectrant Technologies. Mr. Wobken’s career includes a variety of positions with leading companies in healthcare manufacturing, including Baxter Healthcare, Ciba-Corning Diagnostics, ChemTrak and Masimo. Mr. Wobken earned both his BS and MBA degrees in Finance.

Carl Stubbings

Carl Stubbings joined Focus Diagnostics as Vice President, Sales & Marketing in 2007, where he directs sales and marketing activities for diagnostic products worldwide. Mr. Stubbing’s career in sales and marketing spans more than 30 years while working in the diagnostics, nuclear medicine, life sciences and private pathology segments of the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Focus Diagnostics, Mr. Stubbings was the Senior Vice President of Panbio Inc USA, where he was responsible for business development in the Americas and Europe. Mr. Stubbings earned his B.Sc. from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.

Vice President, Quality and Regulatory Affairs

Ronda Elliott

Ronda Elliott joined Focus Diagnostics in 2010. In her position, she has oversight responsibility for Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory Compliance, Quality System, Quality Assurance and Quality Control related activities. Ms. Elliott serves as Focus’ Management Representative, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and maintenance of the company’s quality system. Ms. Elliott has more than 20 years experience in the Medical Device industry with in vitro diagnostic companies. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, certifications through American Society for Quality (ASQ) in Quality Management/Organizational Excellence, and is a Certified Quality Auditor.
